NEWS and EVENTS

dachsund pups   These puppies are 5-month-old boys and they look like they are dachshund mixes. Their names are Pirate and Killer. Doesn't look like Killer has a mean bone in his body though.

They are kept outside most of the time so we are not sure if they are house trained or not. But they are young enough so that it shouldn't be difficult to train them. They are friendly with people, kids and other dogs. They have not been around cats.

They are in a very unstable home situation and the people are moving to Florida the first of June. If they don't find a place for the puppies, we're not sure what they will do with them. If anyone has room to foster one or both of them, we would appreciate it. We can't take them in so they will be safe unless someone offers to foster them. Please pass this email around to all your contacts.

Go to http://www.secondchancepets.org/volunteers/fosterinfo.html for information on fostering.

We would like to thank everyone for their interest in these wonderful boys. Everyone spread the word to their e mail lists and we received all the help we needed to take them into Second Chance Pets. They have had all their vetting and they are healthy and happy in their foster home. In fact, Foster Mom and Foster Dad have grown to love them so much that they are going to adopt BOTH of them.

It will be wonderful that they can stay together. They have come a long way from that dirty back yard. They were deserted by their family and had nothing to eat until the neighbors starting throwing food over the fence. They were filthy and covered with fleas. They even had a few black freckles that we didn't know about because they were so dirty. Now they are loved and well taken care of and go to bed every night with their new family in their king size bed. Its a real success story.

Ever thought about fostering?

Because we do not have a shelter, Second Chance Pets can accept a new cat or dog into the program only if it has been placed with a foster who will provide shelter, food, care and love until the animal is adopted. Second Chance Pets is ALWAYS looking for new foster homes for dogs and cats. To volunteer as a foster or find our more information about the SCP foster care program, please email us.

Book sales to raise funds for Second Chance Pets

A wonderful "happy tails" story has been turned into a book!

Monica Stout, who is about to graduate from the University of Houston Clear Lake with a degree from the Digital Media Studies program, wrote this book as her graduate project.

Mandy's Heart is based on the experience of Monica and her family when they discovered a feral cat and her five wild kittens had taken up residence in the bushes adjacent to their home. The family got in touch with Second Chance Pets, who advised them how to trap and tame the kittens. The mother cat was spayed through the assistance of the Feral Cat Assistance program and given a home at a horse barn where other feral cats live. The kittens, with lots of love and patience, were successfully tamed and placed into good homes. Mandy, the smallest and most timid of the feral kittens, got to remain as the much loved pet of the family! See the trailer here.

All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Second Chance Pets!
