NEWS and EVENTS

Meet Some of our Special Pets

Sally
Sally is a beautiful border collie mix, who has unfortunately been boarded for over a year now. She is great with adults and teenagers, but is very afraid of children and barks at them. In an effort to finally place her, SCP has elected to send her to a dog behaviorist where she will spend up to 3 months doing intense rehabilitation, basic obedience and socialization. Her expenses will run $1500 plus her food and preventative medications. We believe she is so extraordinary that we are willing to invest in her. We are seeking donations toward her costs and, as always, a foster. You can click on the link to view her Bay Area Houston Magazine webcast. SCP is very appreciative to The Bay Area Houston Magazine for underwriting the cost of producing her webcast.

The Bears
SCP has found a place for two older, black, de-clawed cats we call The Bears. We have decided they cannot continue going to adoptions, howling the whole way, crouching in their cages, and going back home where they live in a bedroom. They were returned to SCP after being in a home for 8 years! They were re-adopted and immediately re-returned because one hid behind a refrigerator for days, in his own urine. An animal sanctuary has agreed to take the cats to ensure they will now have a safe place to live out their lives. In exchange SCP agreed to donate $1000 and take 8 adoptable cats of our choosing. We are seeking donations toward that $1000 and 8 fosters for the cats coming to us. We are a relentlessly optimistic and fortunate bunch!

Pixie
Pixie is an adorable three-month-old white kitten who has had a very rough life. Rescued from an animal shelter as a tiny baby, her left eye had to be removed when she was only 4 weeks old and now she needs more surgery due to fluid build-up in the socket. In spite of all this Pixie is a sweet girl with an amazing personality!! She is patient during medical treatments and romps with the other cats in her foster home. Pixie doesn’t know she’s different – she’s just a happy, loving little kitten! Vet work for special needs pets like Pixie is expensive! Your donation to Pixie’s Fund will help her heall and find a forever home.
To donate to any or all of the funds please mail checks to SCP, PO Box 1216, League City, TX., 77574. Please write on your check that you are donating to one of the following: Sally’s Rehab Fund, The Bears Sanctuary Fund, or Pixie’s Fund. SCP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization. Our tax ID# is 76-0463217. All donations are tax deductible. Any donations that surpass our goal for each fund will go to help other special needs pets.

Ever thought about fostering?

Because we do not have a shelter, Second Chance Pets can accept a new cat or dog into the program only if it has been placed with a foster who will provide shelter, food, care and love until the animal is adopted. Second Chance Pets is ALWAYS looking for new foster homes for dogs and cats. To volunteer as a foster or find our more information about the SCP foster care program, please email us.

Book sales to raise funds for Second Chance Pets

A wonderful "happy tails" story has been turned into a book!

Monica Stout, who is about to graduate from the University of Houston Clear Lake with a degree from the Digital Media Studies program, wrote this book as her graduate project.

Mandy's Heart is based on the experience of Monica and her family when they discovered a feral cat and her five wild kittens had taken up residence in the bushes adjacent to their home. The family got in touch with Second Chance Pets, who advised them how to trap and tame the kittens. The mother cat was spayed through the assistance of the Feral Cat Assistance program and given a home at a horse barn where other feral cats live. The kittens, with lots of love and patience, were successfully tamed and placed into good homes. Mandy, the smallest and most timid of the feral kittens, got to remain as the much loved pet of the family! See the trailer here.

All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Second Chance Pets!
